Mercedes cars started with two men - Gottlieb Dailmer and Carl Benz - who each developed their own separate companies to begin with. Dailmer formed the car company Daimler Morten Gesellschaft, or DMG. Benz is credited with creating the first complete automobile, the Benz Patent Motor Car, in 1886. Then, a third man entered the picture.
Emil Jellinek in 1897 ordered his very first Daimler car from DMG. Jellinek enjoyed sketching cars, and that lead him to eventually get hired promoting and selling Daimler cars. He began racing the cars as well, and he demanded faster and faster vehicles from DMG. Jellniek began racing under the pseudonym of his daughter, Mercedes. Then, in 1900, Jellinek made an agreement with DMG with regard to sales of their cars, and it was agreed upon that they would use the Mercedes name. In addition, a new Daimler-Mercedes engine would be constructed.
By 1900, the first classic Mercedes for sale equipped with the new engine came on the scene. This Mercedes car had 35 horsepower, a low center of gravity, excellent performance, and was ultimately credited with being the first modern automobile. By 1902, the Mercedes name was trademarked and legally registered. And, Jellniek began going by the name Jellinek-Mercedes.
Daimler passed away in 1900, but his sons found away to keep his spirit alive within Mercedes-Benz cars. Daimler had placed a three pointed star above his house, claiming that it would one day shine over his factory to represent prosperity. His sons proposed this three pointed star to be the symbol of Mercedes and it was agreed upon - and in fact, is still used today. Therefore, the Mercedes-Benz name itself captures both Jellinek-Mercedes and Benz, while the star embodies Daimler's personality; all three are adequately represented for their contributions to every classic Mercedes for sale that you may find in Mercedes classifieds.
Mercedes-Benz continued to produce quality cars decade after decade. The 300 Series Mercedes-Benz came out in 1951 as the first line of vehicles the company offered after the war; they stayed in production for over ten years. The 300S followed in 1952, complete with 150 horsepower compared to the 300's 115 - and these are just a couple of classic Mercedes cars for sale that you may find here in our Mercedes classifieds.
If you are interested in classic cars, a classic Mercedes for sale just may jump out at you when browsing classified ads. Classic Mercedes cars are a legend in the classic car industry, and their sustainability for over 100 years speaks volumes as to their credibility.
